Dear West Springs Families,
Thank you!
Thank you to council for their generosity and gifting all of our West Springs staff WSS logo t-shirts for staff appreciation! We are so thankful!
Sports Day
Yesterday was a beautiful day full of fun activities, cooperation, leadership and FREEZIES! The Olympic theme was on point and we loved to see all the students wearing the colours of the rings. We showed each other how we can play fair, be kind and cheer each other on while competing for medals and playing for fun. Thank you to Mrs. Wright for another amazing Sports Day!
TRC Commitment - National Indigenous People’s Day
June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to learn about the unique cultures, traditions and experiences of First Nations, Métis and Inuit in Canada. We participated in a few special activities today to celebrate National Indigenous History Month and the CBE’s ongoing journey toward Truth and Reconciliation. We learned about the special flags at the entrance of our school, we learned about the summer solstice from a video shared by Elder Saa' kokoto and the students at Edgemont School, and then shared in circle outside with our classmates. Ask your child to tell you more!
Schools are also looking back at their current TRC Commitment to Action to walk forward with a renewed commitment for the 2024-25 school year. At West Springs School, we have completed our reflection and have renewed our TRC Commitment. Please visit this page in our website to see our commitment.
How to access report cards in MyCBE account
Families will be able to view online student report cards for kindergarten to Grade 12 from June 26 – July 26, 2024. Report cards for the 2023-24 school year may be viewed, downloaded and/or printed.
Parents and Guardians can sign in to MyCBE to view student information, including report cards, comments from your child’s teacher, assignments and grades, and attendance information. For best access to information, log in to the MyCBE portal instead of using the PowerSchool App.
Staffing Updates
As we come to the end of a wonderful year of learning, we have a number of staffing changes and updates to share with the community.
Farewell:
Staff we are saying a fond farewell to:
- Mr. Tosczak – Mr. Tosczak has decided to return to the Edmonton area to be closer to friends and family. He asked me to thank the West Springs School community for their kindness and support over the past 6 years. He will miss the relationships he has built over the years. We will miss you Mr. Tosczak!
- Mr. Neily – Mr. Neily has accepted a teaching position at Tuscany School for next year. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors and will miss his positive attitude and kind smile at WSS.
- Mrs. Patel – After a short but meaningful year at West Springs School, Mrs. Patel has decided to focus on new priorities and is saying farewell to teaching after 20 incredible years. We have loved getting to know Mrs. Patel this year and I know she will be missed by her kindergarten students in the hallways next year.
We have had many excellent teachers join our team this year on temporary contracts - filling in for other teachers - who we would like to acknowledge for all of their hard work and dedication to our students and our school. One of the benefits of being part of such a large school board is that there are many opportunities for teachers to work with students from all across the city and gain experience before becoming permanent staff at a school. This is a typical and important part of our staffing process in the CBE. We wish them all the best and hope to see some or all of them back in our school again soon!
- Mrs. Partridge
- Ms. Toews
- Ms. Pritchard
- Mr. Nikiforuk
- Mrs. Okubanjo
- Ms. Pajot
- Ms. Payette (left in May)
Welcome
We are excited to welcome two new, confirmed teachers to our roster in the fall: Ms. Fero and Ms. Taylor. We are in the middle of hiring for some more of our open positions right now and will include an updated list upon our return in the fall.
We have not finalized what grades teachers will be teaching next year and won’t do so until late August. Class lists are being worked on prior to the end of June and will be finalized in August upon our return. More information and a Welcome Back email will be sent to families by August 23, 2024.
Have a great weekend!

WSSDA News
Dear West Springs Families,
We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude for an exceptional year of events and fundraising. Thanks to our dedicated school community, we raised approximately $30,000 from our various events and fundraisers, and an impressive $85,000 from our casino night.
The funds have been used to support our students' learning in various ways: two residencies (Ms. Chantal and Evergreen Theatre), science equipment and resources, math manipulatives, physical education equipment, music resources, robotics, whiteboards, scooter racks, Store and Go carts, and many other items.
None of this would have been possible without your participation in our events and fundraisers. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing everyone next year. Have an amazing summer!
Your WSSDA Team
