Good afternoon, WSS families!
A few important updates for everyone today. A reminder that there is no school next week on Thursday and Friday for Teacher’s Convention. School will resume on Tuesday, February 17th after the Family Day holiday.
Valentine’s Day: Teachers will acknowledge Valentine’s Day within the context of their classroom, so watch for upcoming information from your child’s classroom teacher. We ask that you please keep treats and food products at home.
Pink Shirt Day originated in Halifax, Nova Scotia back in 2008 with two high school aged students that saw a need to be kind while another student was not being treated with kindness and respect. That one act of compassion quickly spread beyond the school. In 2008, British Columbia’s provincial government proclaimed a provincial Anti-Bullying Day in February, and over time the idea of wearing pink to stand against bullying spread throughout Canada and then internationally. Today, Pink Shirt Day is observed annually in Canada on the last Wednesday of February.

School Council Parent Night Event
You are invited to attend a screening of Screenagers: Elementary School Edition at West Springs School on Thursday, March 12 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. This event is FREE but school council requests you sign up so we can be prepared for approximately how many people will attend. Sign up here.
WSSDA Fundraising News
We have a few exciting updates.
Fun Lunch:
Our next Fun Lunch –Mucho Burrito, of the year is scheduled for February 19 (Mon/Wed Kindergarten February 18). Your order must be placed by this Saturday, February 14 via Healthy Hunger.
We are still looking for volunteers to help during our Fun Lunches, including volunteers to help with the Mon/Wed Kindergarten. The time commitment is less than one hour starting at noon on Thursday Fun Lunch and 12:30 for Mon/Wed Fun Lunch days. All volunteers must have their vulnerable sector check security clearance with our school. If you are interested in helping out, please use the link found here.

Mark your calendar! This year's Fun Fair will be held on Thursday, June 11th. More information will be shared as we get closer to the event.
Planning for Next Year – Volunteer Opportunity
We are looking for one or two enthusiastic individuals to take on the role of Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch Coordinator(s) for the 2026-27 school year! What is involved?
- 2 hours of setup time at the start of the year (to set up vendors in the healthy Hunger System and create a Signup Genius for volunteer support).
- On Fun Lunch days, volunteers help out for around 2 hours to ensure everything runs smoothly.
